During the three year period from January 2008 to January 2011, the S&P 500 lost 12.11%. If you owned stock in multiple large American companies, it’s likely you would’ve experienced a similar amount of loss during this time. Now imagine you sold your shares before the January ’08 crash and bought at the beginning of the bull cycle in March 2009. In less than 2 years, you would’ve been up 88%.

Have you heard about the Everything Bubble? Some analysts believe that after the dot-com bubble of the 1990s and the housing bubble of the 2000s, we are in the middle of a price bubble in virtually all asset classes simultaneously caused by the Fed’s unusually easy monetary policy with ultra low interest rates. Although we agree that the US central bank maintained federal funds rate too low for too long, the narrative about a dangerous bubble inflating in a wide variety of countries, industries, and assets does not make sense. The bubble means that the price of an asset deviates from the fundamental value, increasing excessively, to a much greater extent than on other markets. It should be now clear that the existence of overvalued assets necessarily means that other assets are undervalued, so there can’t be the ‘everything bubble’. Sorry, but those who wait for the total asset apocalypse might be disappointed.

Our entire short-term oriented indicators clearly turned bearish last week. From a pure price point of view, we can see that the S&P 500 closed 61 points below the bearish threshold from the Trend Trader Index. In this context, the S&P 500 is extremely far away from getting back into a short-term oriented uptrend. Furthermore, both envelope lines of this reliable indicator are still decreasing on a quite fast pace, which is another typical technical pattern for a strong short-term oriented down-trend. But the case is slightly different if we focus on the Modified MACD. Despite the fact that this indicator flashed a bearish ....
Being Janette is impossible. Even trying to be Janette runs the risk of becoming Jebediah – or worse. Fancy timing increases the likelihood of errors.People want to buy after stocks rise, not after they drop. Were you eagerly buying this March, when the early-year correction avalanched? Or in February 2016 as headlines hyped election risks at the bottom of an eight-month slide? Or in March 2009 at the depths of the financial crisis? As I said last week, the best time to buy is surely when people least want to.
But how profitable is this market timing model? It is difficult to tell. While screening for high-growth stocks according to the CAN SLIM methodology is quite simple with software, the analysis of the market is quite interpretive and typically requires a visual approach. I am not familiar with a specific computerized and back-testable algorithm that is able to emulate this market timing technique. But as reported by the American Association of Individual Investors, the 5-year annualized return of the CAN SLIM stock picking method is 21.9%. That said, how much gain can be had from this isolated market timing technique is not readily available knowledge.
We don’t have a central bank meeting scheduled for this week, but we get the minutes of the latest ECB one. Following the upbeat remarks of President Draghi at the conference following that meeting, it will be interesting to see whether other ECB officials are on the same page. In the US, we have the CPIs for September. We get inflation data from Norway and Sweden as well.
However, beginning in the 1970s, new financial products began to take shape. The decision by the United States to end the pegging of the dollar to the price of gold produced a free-floating currency system. In other words, supply and demand, not artificial pegs, determined how much each currency was worth. This produced new markets in foreign exchange trading.

When Federal reserve which is the central banking authority of the US hikes the rate , it is a known phenomenon that FII/FPIs will take out their money from emerging economies such as India and put it in Treasuries since that would give them a better rate. Also Treasuries can’t default as they are backed by the US Government. It is also very suprising to know that China holds $1.24 Trillion in US Treasuries as of June 2016. Main reason why US doesn’t want to mess with China.

AGRICULTURAL MARKETS OVERVIEW FOR MONDAY: (11/19) Cycles are mixed for the next few days with some bias toward lower action. Seasonal the market rallies before Thanksgiving and there is probably enough early winter weather to prevent any serious downward action. Weather should also support meats and they will be hard to sell now and holiday trade can get thin and we try not to trade much in the meat pits before the holidays. Any strong rallies on Mondays may quickly be taken back into Tuesday/Wednesday.
Corn: Corn is a commodity with several important applications in the global economy. It is a food source for humans and livestock as well as a feedstock used in the production of ethanol fuel. The high cost of sugar in the United States has made corn a key ingredient in sweetening products such as ketchup, soft drinks and candies. Growing food and fuel demand globally should drive continued interest in corn as a commodity.

Crossing Session orders will be accepted beginning at 1:00 p.m. for continuous executions until 1:30 p.m. on this date, and NYSE American Equities, NYSE Arca Equities, and NYSE National late trading sessions will close at 5:00 pm. On Tuesday, during the Asian morning, we get Australia’s NAB business survey for September. Although this is usually not a market mover, given the RBA’s emphasis on wage growth, we will take a close look at the Labour Costs sub-index. At its last two meetings, the Bank reiterated that wage growth remains low, but removed the part saying that this is likely to continue. Instead, officials noted that it has picked up a little and that further lift is expected. The NAB Labour Costs index accelerated to +1.3% qoq in the three months to August, from 0.9% in the three months to July and it would be interesting to see whether this improvement will continue as the RBA has suggested.
In May, President Trump signed the rewrite of the 2010 Dodd-Frank law passed earlier by Congress with rare bipartisan support. The bill is the biggest rollback of bank rules since the financial crisis. According to the new law, lenders with less than $10 billion in assets will be exempted from the Volcker rule that bans proprietary trading. Moreover, the bill eases rules on all but the largest institutions, raising the threshold by which banks are considered systematically important and, thus, subject to tighter oversight from $50 to $250 billion in assets. The smallest banks between $50 and $100 billion were immediately freed of stricter regulations, while depositary institutions between $100 and $250 billion in assets will be exempt from them beginning in November 2019, although they could still be subjected to the Fed’s enhanced supervision in times of need. Last month, the Fed just unveiled a proposal for the implementation of several major provisions of the new bill.

ShepWave.com is an educational site. We have created this site to help give guidance to the major U.S. indices. The markets seem unpredictable to many people; we try to give clarity to what seems to be random movements in the markets. Why pay $thousands for a trend trading course. We are a live trend trading course with the current market action. Many of our traders trade individual stocks that 'track' the major indexes. Many of these stocks have a higher beta than the index therefore making a larger percentage move.

Thank you for a simple but workable SMS commodity alerts. I was about to abandon commodity trading with some huge losses over the last year, from one strategy to the next... and then I found your service. I Also enjoy your quick support - feel I have a trading mate! I am going to cut 1 star because they're sending four to six calls per week. I want more... :-D
For example, the greatest loss for investors according to Dalbar data over the past 30 years came in October 2008. This was a volatile month; the S&P 500 started above 1,100 but at times closed in the 800s, representing a decline of 27% within a single month. Only the S&P 500 then rebounded somewhat and finished the month 14% off the lows. Clearly, October 2008 was a roller coaster of a month and relatively unusual in market history - we saw greater swings in October 2008 than are often seen over a whole year.

Following two years without so much as a whisper of volatility, the iconic Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJINDICES:^DJI) and broad-based S&P 500 (SNPINDEX:^GSPC) are seemingly doing their best to keep investors on the edge of their seats. In February, the CBOE Volatility Index briefly hit a nine-year high following three grim single-day performances over a span of six days that saw the Dow lose 666 points, 1,033 points, and 1,175 points, its biggest single-day decline in history.
For example, if you spend $10,000 on stock in company A in a taxable account and it rises $5,000 within 6 months, then selling Company A immediately would incur a 28% tax on the $5,000 gain or $1,400 of tax. But if you waited until you’d held the stock for a year and moved into long term capital gains territory, then the tax is $750 because it’s taxed at the lower rate of 15%. Hence your tax cost falls materially by waiting to hold an investment for a year assuming the price of the stock stays the same. In this theoretical example you save $650, or 13%, of your paper profits.

A few of these holidays also lead to early closes on additional days. For example, on the Friday after Thanksgiving Day, the stock market closes after 1:00 p.m. ET. If Christmas Eve or the day before Independence Day fall on a weekday, those days are also subject to early closes, with the market again closing at 1:00 p.m. If Independence Day is a Saturday, then Friday, July 3, is still recognized as a holiday and the exchanges are closed.
As more farmers began delivering their grains to the warehouses in Chicago, buyers and sellers realized that customized forward contracts were cumbersome and inefficient. Furthermore, they subjected the buyer to the risk of default by the seller. A group of brokers streamlined the process by creating standardized contracts that were identical in terms of the (a) quantity and quality of the asset being delivered, (b) the delivery time and (c) the terms of the delivery. They also created a centralized clearinghouse to act as the counterparty to both parties in the transaction. This eliminated the risk of default that was present with forward contracts. In 1848, they established the Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT) to trade these contracts, which became known as futures contracts.
Crude Oil: This commodity has the largest impact on the global economy. Not only is crude oil used in a variety of forms of transportation including cars, trains, jets and ships, it is also used in the production of plastics, synthetic textiles (acrylic, nylon, spandex and polyester), fertilizers, computers, cosmetics and more. If you take into account the input cost of transportation, crude oil plays a role in the production of virtually every commodity.
Intermediate-level fundamental traders may want to delve deeper into the end markets for particular commodities. For example, strength or weakness in the commercial real estate markets in large metropolitan areas can offer clues about demand for steel and other industrial metals. Similarly, the Cattle on Feed Report released by the USDA shows the future supply of cattle coming on to the market and can offer clues about future beef prices. Once traders become familiar with interpreting the significance of these data points, they can use them to make trading decisions.

In the 1800s, the burgeoning grain trade led to the establishment of commodities forward contract markets in the United States. Farmers in the Midwest would bring their crops to Chicago for storage prior to shipment to the East Coast. However, during storage, the prices for these grains might change for a variety of reasons. The quality of the stored item could deteriorate, for example, or demand for the item could increase or decrease.

Mr. Bear however, has been assigned a totally different mission.  When it’s his turn he has been tasked to use those very same investors to power the trend to un-dreamed of lows.  This is a mission even more difficult than Mr. Bull’s because counter to Mr. Bull it’s Mr. Bear’s duty to actually keep those investors in the market despite it falling over time, which is no easy task. This is because if these investors just gave up and left the market it would simply stop going down.   His mission requires a particularly high level of deviance to pull off.  It’s why Mr. Market retains a particularly fond place in his heart for Mr. Bear, since Mr. Market has a diabolical nature and like the Grand Inquisitor, he has no problem drawing blood.

Last week Donald Trump, in his own estimation, succeeded in replacing what he claimed to be the "worst trade deal in history" with what he claims was "the best trade deal in history." If true, this would not only make good on one of his central campaign promises, but it would be a genuinely significant development. In reality, the unveiling of the United States-Mexico-Canada (USMCA) trade deal is just the latest iteration of the President's talent for branding. As is the case in other aspects of the president's view of economic matters, the difference between then and now is almost purely semantic.
Technical Analysis: This strategy uses historical prices and charts to analyze trends. Technical analysis traders believe historical price trends have predictive ability for prices in the future. They look for price points in the past where significant buying or selling occurred. They then place orders to trigger positions once those price levels occur again. Pure technical analysis traders pay no attention to fundamental economic factors in their trading.

Before we look at tonights charts I would like to take a minute to discuss trading the three X leveraged etf’s. Leveraged etf’s aren’t for everyone as they can be very volatile. These instruments are for those that can take a bigger risk and still come out OK when they go against you. For the average investor a 1 X leveraged etf is all they can handle and that should be fine. When you start playing with the 2 X and 3 X leveraged etf’s your risk factor goes up very fast.
